How we work with schools & teachers

Hi, I’m Elaine Smith, and I run the Farm Education Centre.
Farms are a stimulating outdoor classroom that provide a rich resource to support continued learning. As a qualified and experienced teacher, I have the knowledge and skills to work with children and young people of all ages to make the most of the opportunities provided by the farm environment.
The farm offers a range of learning experiences such as…
- Visiting the milking robots and learning how they milk our cows.
- Getting close to the cows and calves to learn how they feel, smell, look and sound.
- Learning how food is produced and having a go at making butter.
- Discovering what cows eat, how many stomachs they have, and how they produce milk
- Learning how we give calves a healthy start.
- Making informed choices about milk and nutritional benefits
- Discover what happens daily on a real working farm
- Understanding the importance of soil, insects and minibeasts on the farm.
- Learning about environmental issues and sustainability and how we play our part in looking after the environment.
What we provide
All of our lessons are based around the National Curriculum for Key Stages 1-4, and Course Specifications for Further & Higher Education. During our pre-visit planning, we’ll go through the subjects you wish to cover and the outcomes you would like to achieve.
We provide lesson plans and structure for the day, in addition to running the course and involving teachers as much as possible.
We also provide all the safety documentation that you will need including risk assessments, insurance, DBS clearance, and emergency action plans.

Age Groups
We offer curriculum based visits for children at all stages of Primary and Secondary School Education in addition to Home-schooling groups. We are also able to offer course specific visits for Further and Higher Education, such as Environmental Science and Agricultural Courses. Please see our Colleges & Universities section.
